An evidence database can be used for cases held in the electronic courtrooms of the Supreme and District courts in Perth.
Before a matter receives a hearing date, the court and relevant parties will decide if the hearing is to be conducted using electronic technology. If so, documents relevant to the matter will need to be submitted electronically for compiling on the database.
During the trial, all parties, including the judge will be able to access the database. The judge's associate will control the display of information to the entire court. Counsel will not need to know how to use the database to call up an exhibit.
It is important that electronic documents are submitted in a set format and meet specific standards, to ensure the information is properly recorded and able to be recovered. Examples of the required format are available online.
