Litigants

The term "litigants" refers to those who are a party to court proceedings. Although the term may occasionally include those involved in criminal matters, it is more often used to describe those involved in civil cases.

In civil matters, 'litigants' refers to both the party that commenced the proceedings and those involved in defending the case. The term litigant would normally refer to actual people but, in its broadest sense, may also include corporations and other incorporated bodies.

Litigants would not ordinarily refer to members of the legal profession unless they were a party to a court case.
