The Gender Reassignment Board deals with matters relating to a person's reassigned gender under the Gender Reassignment Act.
A person who has undergone gender reassignment and wishes to have their new gender legally recognised can apply for a Recognition Certificate for an Adult (download below).
A guardian of a child who has undergone gender reassignment and wishes to have the child’s new gender legally recognised can apply for a Recognition Certificate for a Child (download below).
Applications for certificates are made to the Gender Reassignment Board (downloads below).
If your application to the Gender Reassignment Board is unsuccessful, you may be able to make application for a review of its decision to the State Administrative Tribunal.
For more information about a review of the Gender Reassignment Board's decision visit the State Administrative Tribunal website.
When making an application you must provide evidence to the Executive Officer that you have served the application form and supporting documents on the Attorney General.
The Board has approved a standard Statutory Declaration form (Western Australia) (download below) which you can use as evidence of service.
Alternatively when you contact the Executive Officer for an application, please request a copy of the Statutory Declaration (download below) also.
Once you have served the documents on the Attorney General, you must provide the proof of service on the Attorney General to the Executive Officer.
Once your application to the Gender Reassignment Board is successful, you can apply for a new birth certificate from the Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriages. For more information, visit the Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriages website.
